At the end of the Foundation Stage, students enter Key Stage 1. Key Stage is comprised of Year 1 and Year 2, and covers the age range of 5–7 years. A smooth transition takes place between the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. The structure of the curriculum changes and the following subjects are now taught:
Upon completing Key Stage 1, students commence Key Stage 2, a four-year stage from Year 3 to Year 6, covering the age range 7-11 years. The subjects for Key Stage 2 remain the same as the subjects for Key Stage 1, but in addition to the subjects listed above, we also offer Spanish sessions.
Parlez- Vous Francais ? We may teach Spanish during the day in KS2 but we also have 3 fluent French speakers on the teaching staff who are offering high quality differentiated language lessons in French as well.
Throughout Key Stages 1 and 2, links are made across the curriculum wherever possible. This is in keeping with our holistic teaching methodology, which recognises that the learning experience is greatly enriched when subjects are not taught in isolation. We have curriculum co-ordinators to ensure that there is a natural progression for children moving from one year group to the next. Specialist teachers deliver ICT, Art and Design Technology, Music, PE, Foreign Language, Arabic, and Islamic Studies programmes – please refer to these sections for more information.
