Relationships & Values

We teach children how to form healthy friendships, show respect to others, and become thoughtful, kind members of their community.

At Victory Heights Primary School, we believe that learning how to get along with others is one of the most important life skills a child can develop. Relationships Education supports our vision to nurture, challenge, and excel by helping children build strong social foundations based on kindness, responsibility, and respect.

Why Relationships Education matters

We want our children to grow up confident in themselves and respectful of others. Through age-appropriate, culturally sensitive lessons, we teach pupils how to:

  • Build and maintain friendships
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully in groups
  • Understand family life and community responsibility
  • Set healthy boundaries and communicate clearly
  • Show empathy, patience, and kindness to others
  • Celebrate diversity in a respectful and inclusive way

How it’s taught

At VHPS, Relationships Education is taught primarily through the Moral, Social and Cultural Studies (MSCs) curriculum from Year 1 upwards. These lessons are supported through:

  • Circle time discussions
  • Positive behaviour modelling by staff
  • Themed assemblies and events
  • Integrated activities during Mindful Monday (KS1) and Wellbeing Wednesday (KS2)

In Foundation Stage, social development is built into daily routines and play-based learning, helping children learn how to share, listen, cooperate, and resolve small conflicts with guidance and support.

A culturally respectful approach

Our Relationships curriculum is carefully planned to reflect UAE law, Islamic values, and KHDA expectations. All content is reviewed to ensure it is age-appropriate, respectful of our diverse community, and fully compliant with local guidance.

We do not teach any content that falls outside of legal and cultural boundaries, and we work in close partnership with parents to maintain open and transparent communication about what children are learning.

Working together

Parents are informed of key themes in advance and are encouraged to speak to class teachers or the Head of Inclusion with any questions. We see Relationships Education as a shared responsibility between home and school, and we are proud to help our pupils grow into kind, respectful, and confident young people.
